I’m a Senior at Greater Lawrence Tech; I started as a freshman in construction. When I was younger I used to watch those shows about re-doing an ugly house and making it beautiful and I thought I’ld like to do that. So here I am.

It’s pretty cool that we’re even able to be here, working on site, because of Covid-19. This is a pretty awesome experience.

I really like to use the circular saw. The first time I used it was scary, the cuts were hard and I couldn’t make a straight cut. Now I know I’m in control and it’s like “whoop” and it’s cut. I’ve learned a lot and gained a lot of confidence. It’s hard work too—carrying all of the material inside is the hardest work.

Being a female in this program is pretty cool. My classmates are easy to work with and I’m comfortable working with them. Last year we had a chance to talk with women in construction. They told us to not let men get in our way and that ‘you can do it.’ Now look at where I am right now!

I let people know that if there’s something you want to do then go for it. If you’re a girl, you got this. That’s how I feel—I got this.
