Ronny, GLTS Senior, Carpentry

I feel as though I am making a difference in the world by building homes for families who need affordable housing and having an everlasting impact on their lives. It’s a great way to get involved in the community and help people.

Finishing work and working indoors are my specialties because I enjoy challenges. Unlike outside work which requires estimations and can be seen as more rough, a vital part of indoor work is paying close attention to detail. Being prepared is something important I’ve learned while being a part of this experience. Not only are we prepared to work, but we have to be able to work in all weather conditions. Some days we walk in and it’s only 10°!

My biggest accomplishments while working on this current project have been helping with the work on the new stairs,  designing the interior of the doors and windows, and hanging the doors. The most exciting part of working here so far has been hanging by a harness and helping install rafters on the roof.

I am hoping to pursue a career in carpentry full time following graduation this Spring. I’m willing to work anywhere and eager to learn and make a living off of what I enjoy doing. My inspiration comes from family members of mine who work in construction and I aspire to follow in their footsteps.
