Priscilla, GLTS Junior, Plumber

“This has been a tough year with remote learning. I’ve been back about a month or so. While online we learned to read the construction drawings, we obviously weren’t working directly with the piping. Now that I’m here we are working hands on, doing PVC piping for the laundry, PEX water lines and a lot more.

Thinking back to freshman year, honestly it was hard to remember everything. I was thinking about going into carpentry, but plumbing came more naturally. I really love it. Whenever I finish connecting piping I feel really good seeing the system complete.

It’s a great experience working on a house and making sure that everything is all set for the family that will move in. Whenever Mr. Capeless calls out ‘plumbers, it’s lunch time,’ I want to finish what I’m working on.

We really work like a team here. We trust each other and we always watch out for each other. There are about 8 plumbers in my group and I’m the only girl who is onsite right now. I feel like I blend in. I’m building plumbing muscles because there are some heavy materials to move around.

My mom and my siblings are deaf so I am fluent in American Sign Language. I also sing, dance, draw and do photography. When I am finished with high school I want to go to a 4-year college and become an ASL interpreter and keep working as a plumber.”
