Building the Dream on the Solstice

The sunlit solstice evening set the perfect backdrop as dozens of supporters of affordable housing gathered at Oak & Iron for Andover Community Trust’’s annual fundraiser. The event, filled with homeowners, board members, and devoted long-time supporters, was a vibrant celebration of housing for all. Among the highlights of the evening were the awards presented to two outstanding individuals, Lisa Schwarz and Iric Rex, who have both advanced affordable housing in town.

Lisa Schwarz, the Assistant Planning Director in Andover, was honored with the Opening Doors to Affordable Housing Award. With over two decades of commitment to affordable housing, Lisa has been instrumental in guiding Andover's efforts to create housing opportunities for residents.

“Having Lisa’s family here to witness the gratitude from the community for her work was really special,” shared Kate Margolese, Vice President of ACT. “Collaborating closely with Lisa, we strive to ensure that the dream of residing in Andover becomes a reality for folks who work in Andover, for families with children, for folks who wish to age gracefully in Andover. The presence of so many community members at the event reflects the positive impact she has made.”

Iric Rex, Principal at Davis Square Architects, was bestowed with the prestigious Fred Stott Award. Known for his exceptional leadership in developing sustainable residential and mixed-use projects, community facilities, and adaptive reuse initiatives, Rex's approach embodies community involvement and altruism. In accepting the award, he acknowledged conducting research on Fred Stott's lifetime impact, further highlighting the resonance between his own values and those of the award's namesake.

"It's truly remarkable to witness Iric embody the spirit of Fred Stott, who dedicated himself to bettering the community and uplifting others," shared Denise Johnson, ACT's executive director. "Iric's commitment to affordable housing reflects his deep-rooted belief in the power of family and community engagement. His recognition is well-deserved."

Adding to the joyous atmosphere, the families of both Lisa Schwarz and Iric Rex joined the festivities to honor the commitment shown by these two fabulous affordable housing advocates.

Attendees were also excited to learn about ACT's proposal for a new all-electric affordable home, intended to become ACT’s 14th permanently affordable residence. The project aims to create a sustainable living space while further expanding housing options in town.
